Now as an award-winning author of over forty novels and a million books in print, I realize I was a slow starter. When I was in the third grade, my teacher wrote a prophetic message on my report card, "Gail is an excellent writer." It took nearly 50 years for me to realize she’d spoken a truth. Now a published novelist and freelance writer, I look back on my early writing and chuckle. As a pre-teen, I wrote a series of Nancy Drew-type mysteries, and in my teen years, I wrote romances --- but not knowing romance needed a happy ending, I often did things like kill the heroine off at the end. Needless to say, my first attempts at romance failed.
My first inspirational romance was published by Heartsong Presents - Barbour Publishing Inc. SEASONS was released in November '98 with another published in May the following year. In 1999 I sold my first novel to Steeple Hill for Love Inspired, and my career was on a roll. I have now sold numerous category romances—both romance and romantic suspense and in 2002, I sold my first single title to Steeple Hill's Women's Fiction line. I recently sold my third. My first hardcover Steeple Hill was released in 2004. I am also a columnist for the ezine Spirit-Led Writer, and I have written over twenty programs and skits for adults and children to be used in churches or Christian schools. Before writing, I taught English and public speaking at a local high school and later became a guidance counselor. I retired in 1995 and worked as a part-time English/public speaking instructor at Davenport University. I continue to maintain a professional counseling license. Born and raised in Michigan, I live with my husband, Bob, who is my greatest fan and the best proofreader in the state. Second to writing, I enjoy music, especially singing as a soloist and choir member at my church and a member of the Detroit Lutheran Singers. I also play handchimes and handbells.
I see writing as a ministry. From reader letters, I know that Christian stories touch the hearts of readers and make a difference in their lives. I’m blessed to be among the fine Christian writers around the world. Writing romance and romantic suspense combines elements I love—romance, suspense, and my love for the Lord. "These three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the
greatest of these is love."
