AND BABY MAKES FIVE |

Felisa went into labor in a lettuce field in Salinas.
This is not uncommon for the migrant workers. |
Housing is not easy to find even with the government
programs, and Felicia found herself living in her car. |
When Chad took her under his wing and employed Felisa as
a worker in his house, he took her to a wealthy area called. Corral de
Tierra |

This is a typical home in Corral de Tierra. You can see
the Spanish influence and the amazing setting. |
When Chad took them to the white sandy beach in Carmel,
this is the view. |

We were there on a cooler day, but in summer the beach
is crowded with people. |
For lunch, they walked back into the shop area and
bought sandwiches at a deli which used to be next to this park. |
This is where Chad wanted to have lunch, but the
children and Felisa wanted to go back to the beach. |

When Chad invited Felisa to a business dinner, he took
her to Barnyard shopping center to buy a new dress. |
The Barnyard is a wonderful tiered outdoor mall that
has flowers growing everywhere. |

Here's an example of the inclining walkway and the
flowers. |
This is Mary's Boutique where Felisa bought her dress in
the book. |
This is another example of one of the shops. |

Statues are lovely in the setting. |
This section is called the Windmill at Santa Rosa's Barn |

A lovely place to sit and enjoy the flowers. Notice the
bridge leading to another level. |
Here we sat at listened to the music while enjoying the
setting. |
We had lunch at Bahama Billy's which is in the Big Sur
Barn Lower Level. We enjoyed our food and we'd love to go back. |

Chad planned a day with the twins and Felisa at the
Monterey Aquarium. This is the outside. The inside has all of the areas I
mentioned in the novel and more. |
Outside of Bubba Gumps where they had a meal after the
aquarium is the famous Forest's bench where he sat with and talked to the
lady. Notice the package on the bench including the box of chocolates. And
I'm wearing Forest's sneakers with a feather on the toe. |

| Near the aquarium we could view the seals and
otters resting on the rocks |
On each table are signs that you change to read Run
Forest Run and if you want the waiter to come to your table, you change
the sign to Stop Forest Stop. Here's my husband Bob beside a larger sign. |
This is the outside of the
Steinbeck Museum which was the location of the fancy dressy business event
that Chad attended with Felisa. This is when Brook treated her badly. |
GARLIC AND ROSES

Garlic World is a large store in Gilroy which I used to
create Juli's father's store, Garlic Garden |
Here's a close-up with me standing in front. |
Juli insisted on meeting Alan at Cannery Row in Monterey
when they were going out on a date. This is one of the old canneries and
this area was made famous by John Steinbeck's novels. |

Again you see the Aquarium which is where they met to go
to dinner at the Blue Moon Bistro. |
On the fourth of July, Juli and Alan with their friends
went to Monterey and had dinner, then sat on the beach and watched the
fire works. |
Here is the beach where they sat. You can see the stairs
going down to the water. |

BUTTERFLY TREES

Pacific Grove is the setting for this novel. It is
one of the loveliest areas in the Monterey Peninsula other than the
charming area of Carmel.
The Butterfly Trees Inn is a fictitious inn but I
modeled the inside of the inn after a Bed and Breakfast called Martine
Inn.
This Inn is on a hillside and offers a wonderful view of
the Monterey Bay. The outside description of the Butterfly Inn is based on
Seven Gables Inn in the same area. |

This is the entrance area to the inn. This was the
staircase that Ross took to his bedroom. |
This was Ross's room, a manly room with dark wood and an
elegant fireplace. |

To my delight, when we stayed at Martine Inn (Butterfly
Tree Inn), we were able to stay in Maggie's room. Notice the blues and
white colors. |
When standing back looking out the window, you can see
the Monterey Bay which is normally a brilliant blue. We were in Pacific
Grove on gray days. |
This is the view looking out Maggie's bedroom window
close up. |

The bathroom in Maggie's room was entered through French
doors and was very unique. |
An upstairs parlor was lovely and we could sit and enjoy
the area just outside our bedroom. |

When Maggie goes out to the garden, this is the garden
at the Martine Inn. It was lovely with flowers and a couple of small
fountains. |
I put a gazebo in the novel which was also fictitious,
but the garden is real. |
The breakfast was an important time in the novel when
Ross hoped to make contact with Alissa. This was were we had breakfast. It
was a lovely sit down meal with numerous courses. |

Outside the dining room window we could see another view
of the Monterey Bay. |
We enjoyed our time in Pacific Grove and walked along
the bay, enjoying the views of the water and the rocks. |

Interesting plants lined our walk and brightened the
cloudy day. |
This is a close-up of the flower on this plant. |
Another view of the Monterey Bay coastline. Ice plants
are in the shadows. |
Maggie wanted to see the statue
in front of the post office of Pacific Grove which is a tribute to their
butterfly parade. Here are two children dressed in butterfly costumes. |
After the butterfly parade in
the novel, Alissa and Ross went to the bazaar behind Down Elementary
School. This is the school. |
| Maggie came to Pacific Grove to
visit the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. Since the butterflies weren't on
the trees when we were there, the park was not active, but this is the
main building of the sanctuary. |
This is one of the trees that
attracts the butterflies. |
In the park, Maggie sat on the
butterfly bench as I am doing here. This is about the time she fell,
resulting in her prolonged stay in Pacific Grove. |
These trees are covered with
Monarch Butterflies between October and March. We were there in July. |
This is the Point Pinos
Lighthouse which is mentioned in the novel. |
| Ross passed the lighthouse on
his search for Alissa when he heard about a lion on Asilomar Beach |
On the ground behind the
lighthouse we spotted deer grazing. |
Also at the lighthouse which
butts up again Asilomar Beach, we read this sign. Caution Mountain Lion. |
This is Asilomar Beach usually
filled with sunbathers, but it's where Alissa came to think |
Can you picture her crouching on
the beach while a mountain lion watched her on this hill? That's what Ross
saw when he arrived. |
Along the coast, benches make a comfortable place to sit
and enjoy the view. That's what I'm doing. |
This is Lover's Point where Ross and Alissa agreed to
make a go of their relationship, and they made plans for the future. |
At Asilomar Confernece center, Alissa and Ross were
married in the chapel. A perfect spot for them since it was there they
both realized what they meant to each other. |
